There was a productivity issue with a manually operated turning machine at System 3R. A lack of process standardisation led to multiple problems that impacted productivity, team morale, and overall efficiency.

The turning machine team struggled with lengthy setup times, resulting in low overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Additionally, their ERP does not allow easy reporting, making it challenging for the team to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.

Operators required clearer communication on best practices, and the company needed assistance measuring and following up on progress.

SOLUTION

System 3R implemented RS Production to address these issues, starting on this advanced CNC machine.

The visualised insights improved decision-making and allowed operators to develop best practices from the ground up.

They introduced a more structured approach to their workflow, creating checklists and standardising how they work with chucks and tools. Quickly realising this enables them to pinpoint process challenges and focus on reducing setup time – meeting the single-digit changeover target.

RESULTS

After implementing RS Production, System 3R significantly increased OEE, doubling its capacity – a remarkable 100% increase – on this advanced CNC machine without extra resources.

Operators gained better insight into their own work and that of their colleagues, promoting collaboration and teamwork based on production data.

Based on this result, System 3R decided to implement this solution on all machinery.
